72nd International Habanera and Polyphonic Singing Competition

From July 19 to 25, 2026, Torrevieja will celebrate the 72nd International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition , one of the most important musical events in Spain and one of the most prestigious choral festivals in the Mediterranean.

The galas and performances will take place, as is tradition, in the open-air venue of Eras de la Sal, next to the port of Torrevieja. The concerts will usually begin at 10:30 p.m.

The competition will feature national and international choirs competing simultaneously in two categories:

• habaneras

• polyphony

The competition phase will take place from July 21 to 24.

Each choir will perform:

• a mandatory habanera designated by the organization

• two habaneras of your choice

• two polyphonic works

  
  

The grand finale gala and official awards ceremony will be held on July 25th.

The competition will award more than €49,000 in prizes. The main prize, awarded by the Alicante Provincial Council, will be worth €10,000. There will also be special prizes for:

• best interpretation of habaneras

• best interpretation of polyphony

• better choral direction

• audience award

The International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition has been held in Torrevieja since 1955 and is considered one of the most important international choral gatherings in Europe, bringing together thousands of spectators and groups from different countries around the world each year.
