Lily: A story from Torrevieja
It is a musical comedy and play written by Pedro Antonio Albaladejo. It is a heart-warming tribute to the local culture of Torrevieja and, in particular, to the traditional characters featured in its children’s folk festivals, known as ‘La Charamita’ (the giants and big-heads).

Lily is a young girl from Chana who arrives in Torrevieja and ends up working in a puppet theatre with the Wolf and the Ogre. Whilst the Wolf falls in love with Lily, she falls for a Cuban man who plays the guitar on the promenade, Ariel. This character, who is a metaphor for Ricardo Lafuente’s habanera ‘Torrevieja’, is in Torrevieja because of everything it reminds him of in Cuba, but he is actually tormented because his life now is a mere shadow of what it once was.
Ariel is engaged to Serafina, a local girl who doesn’t get on very well with the beautiful Lola, and they’re always having their little, amusing squabbles. Lily will have to get used to being called ‘Lilí’ in Torrevieja, but bad news soon arrives and the townspeople will have to show her that there’s no place quite like this town.
