When the Property Manager Fails, It’s Time to Write to the Three Wise Men

Zaragoza.

It seems that one resident in Zaragoza decided that all the usual ways of dealing with his community of residents had been exhausted. So he appealed directly to the people who, at least once a year, promise to make wishes come true.

Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar — the Three Wise Men.

The request appeared as a simple notice posted in the entrance hall. And its contents were actually quite serious.

The author describes himself as a resident who is fully up to date with his community payments, but who has grown tired of the situation in the building. The main problem is the lift: the one serving the right-hand staircase has been out of proper service for more than five months.

So his first request to Their Majesties from the East is quite specific: help get a new maintenance company, so that residents are no longer left in this situation.

But that is not all.

The resident also asks for help with changing the property manager — and finding someone who genuinely cares about the well-being of the community rather than simply collecting their fees.

So the Christmas wish list turns out to be remarkably adult:

a working lift, a competent maintenance company and a decent property manager.

Despite his obvious frustration, the author ends the letter politely:

“I hope my requests will be heard and fulfilled.”

The signature, however, reveals rather more about his state of mind:

“Un vecin@ hasta el gorro de tanta tomadura de pelo” — roughly, “A neighbour who is thoroughly fed up with all this nonsense.”

The photograph of the notice was posted on X by the account @LiosdeVecinos, accompanied by the brief caption: “Mientras tanto en Zaragoza…” — “Meanwhile in Zaragoza…”. The story spread across social media.

There is, admittedly, something very Spanish about the solution.

If the property manager isn't doing the job, the maintenance company isn't doing the job, and the lift has been out of action for five months, there is always one final level of authority:

Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar.

Now all we need to know is whether Their Majesties read notices in apartment building entrances.
