Castle, a landmark on the Costa Blanca

Comment

The castle of La Atalaya or Villena stands on a spur of the San Cristóbal or La Villa mountain, in the town of Villena, in the northwest of the province of Alicante (Spain), close to the border with the provinces of Albacete, Valencia and the Region of Murcia. This spectacular fortress was built by the Almohad Empire at the end of the 12th century as a refuge for the Muslim population of Villena.
It dominates the old border line between Castile and Aragon.
It is currently considered an Asset of Cultural Interest and has been declared a Historic-Artistic Monument belonging to the National Artistic Treasure. It has also been restored on several occasions, which is why it is currently in a good state of conservation.

The castle is open every day (except Mondays and public holidays) from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 18:00.
The entrance fee is 3.60 euros.
