69-year-old man dies after being hit by an electric scooter in Torrevieja

A 69-year-old man has died in Torrevieja as a result of injuries sustained after being hit by an electric scooter, according to official sources. The incident occurred several days ago on a public street in the city, where the victim was struck by the personal mobility vehicle while walking.

Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the man was transferred to hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, his condition deteriorated over the following days, and he eventually passed away due to the severity of his injuries.

Following the incident, officers from the Torrevieja Local Police launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the collision. As part of the inquiry, the rider of the electric scooter involved in the accident was identified and subsequently detained. The individual is being investigated for an alleged offence related to road safety and causing serious injury, which later resulted in death.

The case has been placed under judicial review, and the competent court will determine potential criminal liability once the investigation is completed.

Local authorities have once again stressed the importance of responsible use of electric scooters and other personal mobility vehicles, particularly in urban areas with high pedestrian traffic. They also reminded users that these vehicles are subject to traffic regulations and safety obligations similar to those applying to other forms of transport.
