In San Fulgencio (province of Alicante), officers of the Spanish National Police have arrested a man who was subject to an international arrest warrant issued by the United Kingdom authorities in connection with a serious criminal offence, according to official sources.
The detainee is a 41-year-old man for whom British authorities had issued an international warrant related to a violent sexual offence committed between 2014 and 2015. According to law enforcement information, he was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence.
The international arrest warrant was transmitted to Spain through INTERPOL networks after British authorities received information indicating that the suspect might be hiding in the province of Alicante. Based on this intelligence, the Spanish National Police began efforts to locate and monitor his whereabouts.
Following several operational actions, officers located the suspect in the municipality of San Fulgencio and carried out a coordinated operation, resulting in his arrest without the use of force and without incident.
After completing the required procedures, the detainee was placed at the disposal of Spain’s Central Investigating Court (Juzgado Central de Instrucción), which will oversee the possible extradition process to the United Kingdom, where he is expected to serve the imposed sentence.
This operation highlights the effectiveness of international law enforcement cooperation, particularly through Interpol mechanisms and the exchange of information between the security services of both countries.
International arrest warrants are a standard procedure within cooperation frameworks between European Union member states and Interpol, enabling authorities to locate and arrest individuals accused or convicted of serious crimes, even many years after the offences were committed, regardless of where they attempt to hide.
