On December 3, 2025, the Guardia Civil announced the closure of an illegal auto repair shop located near the Las Lagunas de la Mata Natural Park in Torrevieja.
The hidden "garage" was discovered using drones—members of the Usecic Torrevieja special unit recorded suspicious activity, after which the information was passed on to the SEPRONA environmental unit.
During a search of the workshop, 12 cars and two vans belonging to various owners (including foreigners, according to reports), as well as auto parts, tools, containers of used oil, and repair parts, were found.
Investigators recorded numerous violations: the workshop operated without licenses and permits, failed to comply with safety regulations, and illegally disposed of hazardous waste (oils, filters, metals), posing a serious risk to the natural area.
According to the Guardia Civil, this same site has already attracted police attention: on March 5, 2024, a complaint was filed against it for similar violations. The site's owner now faces administrative sanctions, and a request has been made for the official closure and sealing of the workshop.
Law enforcement officials warn that illegal auto repair shops not only pose an environmental hazard, but also deprive car owners of any guarantee of safety.
