Between 23 and 27 February, public gatherings against gender-based violence were held in several municipalities of the Vega Baja del Segura. The initiative was promoted by the association “Vivas nos queremos Vega Baja”.
The events took place in Torrevieja, Orihuela, Catral, San Miguel de Salinas, Almoradí, Rojales and Daya Vieja. The gatherings were held in public spaces and consisted of peaceful assemblies, reading of statements and moments of silence in memory of the victims.
How the gatherings unfolded
According to available information, citizens and social groups met in central urban areas of each municipality. In some locations, local institutional representatives were present, although not all town councils have officially confirmed their participation.
No incidents were reported and there were no disturbances to public order during the events.
Statistical context
According to data published by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, several fatal cases related to gender violence have been recorded in Spain this year. Official cumulative figures since 2003 exceed 1,300 cases nationwide.
In the Valencian Community, recent judicial data show tens of thousands of complaints registered in recent years, indicating the continued social relevance of the issue.
Background and continuity
The organising association has previously promoted similar events in the region, particularly on dates linked to awareness campaigns. These gatherings form part of an ongoing pattern of civic mobilization across Vega Baja municipalities.
