Attempted burglary in Playa Flamenca residential complex stopped by police

An attempted break-in at a residential complex in Playa Flamenca (Orihuela Costa) was stopped after local police responded quickly to reports from residents.
According to available information, neighbours alerted authorities after spotting two hooded individuals climbing over the perimeter fence of a gated community.
Police officers arrived shortly afterwards and intercepted the suspects before they were able to enter any of the homes, preventing the burglary at a very early stage.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any arrests were made or whether the suspects were carrying tools intended for forced entry.
The incident took place in one of the many gated communities that characterize Orihuela Costa, an area known for its large number of holiday homes and international residents.
In recent months, residents have reported several similar incidents involving small groups attempting to enter residential complexes by climbing fences or checking doors of apparently empty houses.
However, many local residents point out an obvious paradox. Most homes along the coast no longer contain particularly valuable items. Many of these properties are used as second residences, and owners usually avoid leaving cash, jewellery or expensive belongings inside.
In practice, the only items that could realistically be taken from such homes would be large appliances such as televisions, washing machines or even refrigerators — objects that are difficult to carry away quickly or resell.
For that reason, some neighbours note with a touch of irony that these attempted burglaries sometimes appear almost absurd: taking the risk of being caught for items that are hardly practical to steal.
Police emphasize that residents reporting suspicious behaviour remains one of the most effective ways to prevent these incidents.
