The President of the Valencian regional government, Carlos Mazón, officially announced his resignation on Monday, stating that he "can no longer continue" and that "the Generalitat needs a new era." Despite stepping down from his position, Mazón will retain his seat as a deputy in the Valencian parliament (Les Corts) and will not call for early elections.

The resignation comes a year after the tragic events related to Hurricane DANA, which caused widespread destruction in the region. Relatives of the victims have repeatedly criticized the regional government's handling of the disaster.

In his statement, Mazón acknowledged that he made a mistake by not changing his work schedule on the day of the tragedy, but placed the main responsibility for the consequences on departments dependent on the Spanish government. According to him, "the uproar surrounding his figure is being used as an excuse to conceal delays in providing assistance and errors in communication."

Mazón also appealed to the parliamentary majority – the People's Party (PP) and Vox – to act "responsibly" in choosing a new head of the regional government. The resignation concludes a year of tension and political disputes surrounding the leadership of Valencia.
