Torrevieja (Alicante) — As a result of a large-scale operation known as Operation Torrealba, officers of the Guardia Civil have successfully uncovered and dismantled an organised criminal group involved in human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. During the operation, nine women were freed from exploitative conditions and five suspects were arrested.
The police operation took place in Torrevieja (province of Alicante) and targeted a criminal group that operated under the cover of legitimate business activities, using clubs and a hostel both to provide sexual services and to maintain control over the victims.
The five detainees include members of the same family, as well as an individual employed as a security guard at one of the premises. Those arrested include:
the head of the family business, responsible for managing the club and the hostel;
her brother;
her son;
her sister-in-law;
a security employee.
All five suspects were brought before the investigating court in Torrevieja for the relevant legal proceedings. The court ordered their release subject to precautionary measures, while simultaneously mandating the closure of both establishments linked to the criminal network — the club and the hostel that had served as the base for the exploitation of the women.
According to official information, the investigation began in June 2025, when two women filed a complaint with the Women and Minors Unit (EMUME) of the Guardia Civil in Torrevieja. Investigators determined that the women were living under conditions allegedly linked to human trafficking, prompting the opening of a formal investigation.
Further investigative work led to the identification of additional potential victims, accelerating the progress of the case. In late November, simultaneous searches were carried out, resulting in the liberation of seven more women, in addition to the two initial complainants.
During the searches, officers seized mobile phones, digital devices and documents relevant to the criminal investigation.
Institutional and social response
The Guardia Civil reiterated its strong commitment to combating human trafficking and exploitation, highlighting the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and public collaboration in identifying victims and providing them with assistance.
The operation was also supported by the Labour Inspectorate and regional social services, which are involved in safeguarding the rights of the victims and supporting their social rehabilitation.
According to law enforcement sources, the investigation remains open, and further arrests are possible should additional evidence or information regarding other individuals emerge.
