The project to duplicate the N-332 national road as it passes through Torrevieja has received a positive Environmental Impact Report (IIA) issued by Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. This approval is a mandatory step before moving forward to the final design and construction phases.

The assessment was processed by the General Subdirectorate for Environmental Assessment, in accordance with Law 21/2013 of 9 December on environmental assessment, which governs the approval of major infrastructure projects prior to tendering.

The environmental review evaluated potential impacts on public health and air quality, surface and groundwater, soils and geodiversity, flora and fauna, as well as cultural heritage and landscape. Mitigation measures addressing noise, flood risks and construction material management were also included.

According to official parameters, the project involves an investment of approximately €55 million (VAT included), the addition of two new lanes—one in each direction—along a 4.47-km stretch between CV-95 and Avenida Rosa Mazón Valero, a design speed of up to 80 km/h, upgrades to overpasses and underpasses, and the installation of four noise barriers totaling more than 1.15 km.

The assessment also considered potential effects on protected areas, including Red Natura 2000, LIC and ZEPA Lagunas de la Mata y Torrevieja, and the Lagunas de la Mata y Torrevieja Natural Park, concluding that no significant impacts are expected given the predominantly urban alignment.

With the positive IIA in place, the project can proceed to the final documentation review, public consultation and subsequent tendering. Mayor Eduardo Dolón and the City Council continue to work with national authorities, including the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, to expedite timelines and secure future funding.
