A court in Murcia has ordered the pre-trial detention without bail of a 20-year-old man accused of stabbing a 37-year-old Norwegian citizen near the San Andrés bus station. Investigators believe the motive was an attempt to steal money won on slot machines inside the station.
The attack took place shortly before 12:45 a.m., as the victim was leaving the bus station area. The suspect struck him in the abdomen with a machete, causing serious injuries and heavy blood loss.
A security guard was the first to assist the injured man. A 29-year-old Moroccan national also intervened to try to stop the attacker and suffered serious cuts during the struggle, requiring hospital treatment.
Initial reports suggested the involvement of two attackers, but police later confirmed that there was only one assailant, and that the second injured man had attempted to help the victim.
The Norwegian man was taken to Morales Meseguer Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition has stabilised and he is recovering. The suspect faces charges of robbery with violence and attempted murder or grievous bodily harm.
