Torrevieja has unveiled the design for a new day center for Alzheimer's patients, "Tomás Ballester Herrera," scheduled to be operational by mid-2027.
The project was officially commissioned by the municipality: on September 12, 2025, the Torrevieja Municipality announced the award of a contract for the project's development, valued at €204,354.48 (including VAT), with a six-month completion period.
The future building is planned for Sector 25, opposite the QuirónSalud Hospital: the total built-up area will be approximately 2,700 m², and the landscaping area will be over 7,900 m². The project envisages a minimum capacity of 100 users.
Construction cost estimates vary among sources: the administration has indicated a rough estimate of approximately €5.5 million for the construction phase, while local publications report a projected investment of €7-8 million for the entire facility.
City officials emphasize the project's social significance: Mayor Eduardo Dolon and municipal representatives noted that the center will provide specialized care for people with neurodegenerative diseases and support for their families; AFA Torrevieja President Purificación García expressed gratitude for this step.
The contract for the project development has been published and is currently in the final architectural design stage; further timelines depend on the completion of the design and the commencement of construction.
