Parents call for urgent improvements at CEIP Playas de Orihuela

Parents of pupils at CEIP Playas de Orihuela, in the municipality of Orihuela, have called on local authorities to urgently improve the conditions at the school. The demands are linked to ongoing problems with heating systems and the overall state of the facilities, which families say directly affect children’s health and wellbeing.

The most pressing issue raised by parents is the lack of adequate heating. During early morning hours, temperatures in some classrooms drop to very low levels, forcing pupils to remain in class wearing warm clothing. Families stress that such conditions are not suitable for a proper learning environment, particularly for younger children.

According to parent representatives, several formal requests have been registered with municipal services on different dates, addressing both the heating system and the general condition of the building. They state that the problem has persisted for a long period and has not yet been fully resolved.

During a meeting with the councillor responsible for education, parents were informed that the situation would be resolved after the Christmas holidays. However, no specific deadlines or detailed action plan have been communicated so far.

Beyond heating issues, parents also point to other infrastructure concerns, including wear and tear in certain areas of the school, the need for regular technical maintenance and the absence of preventive measures to avoid similar situations during the school year.

In a broader context, this situation reflects ongoing challenges in educational infrastructure across the Vega Baja region, where major construction and refurbishment projects coexist with temporary solutions aimed at addressing structural shortcomings.
