Fire in the Recoleta residential complex (Torrevieja) — night of February 6–7, 2026
The night of February 6–7 was a difficult one for residents of one of Torrevieja’s most respected and well-known residential complexes — Recoleta.
For many years, Recoleta has symbolized comfort and security: low-rise architecture, landscaped gardens, swimming pools, calm surroundings, 24-hour security and underground parking. It is more than an address — it represents a way of life. That is why the fire in its underground garage deeply affected the local community.
What happened
Shortly after midnight on February 7, 2026, a fire broke out in the underground parking area of the complex.
According to emergency services:
21 vehicles were affected;
one man was rescued from heavy smoke by firefighters;
he was transported to hospital;
approximately 20 residential blocks were evacuated as a precaution;
evacuation was carried out due to concerns about possible structural damage.
Firefighters, police and medical teams responded promptly. The fire was contained before reaching residential floors, although the underground level sustained significant smoke and heat damage.
An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
Eyewitness account
That night, friends of the journalist were returning from Alicante Airport after dropping off relatives. Around 1:00 a.m., they arrived at Recoleta.
What they saw was shocking.
Dense smoke filled the internal access roads. Parts of the garage were without lighting. The area was covered in black soot. Firefighters worked in near darkness.
They sent two photographs:blackened walls, melted materials, heavy smoke and silhouettes of firefighters illuminated by flashlights.
One striking detail:after walking through the garage, the black soot still cannot be completely cleaned from the soles of their shoes.
The smell of burnt plastic, fuel and smoke lingered for hours.
Aftermath
Official reports confirm:
21 damaged vehicles;
evacuation of several residential blocks;
ongoing structural evaluation of the garage;
inspection of load-bearing elements and infrastructure.
Residents were allowed to return after initial safety checks.
A citywide concern
Recoleta is familiar to many in Torrevieja.Some live there.Some once did.Others visit friends and family.
That is why this fire is not just another news item — it feels personal.
Even the most secure environments can remind us how fragile our sense of safety can be.
