On the evening of March 13, 2026, the quiet town of Albatera in the Vega Baja region became the scene of a shocking street fight.
The incident occurred around 6:30–6:40 PM on Calle Vicente Pardo. Emergency services received several calls reporting a violent confrontation between two men.
When police arrived, they found one of the individuals sitting on the pavement with a screwdriver lodged in the left side of his head.
Officers decided not to remove the object, as doing so could have caused severe bleeding or further brain injury. The tool was carefully stabilized until paramedics arrived.
The victim, a 37-year-old man, was transported to Hospital General de Elche, where he received medical treatment.
The second participant
Shortly afterwards, the second man involved in the fight appeared at the Catral health center, seeking medical assistance for serious facial injuries.
Both men were detained. Investigators are treating the incident as serious bodily harm and possible attempted homicide.
Possible motives
According to early information, the fight began after a heated argument.
Several versions are circulating among local residents and on social media. Some sources suggest the conflict may be related to a financial dispute, personal issues or possible drug-related activities.
Witnesses claim that one of the men initially attacked the other with a screwdriver, and during the fight the tool ended up being used again, causing the severe head injury.
Who are the men involved?
Unconfirmed information circulating locally suggests that the participants may be two North African men, reportedly from Morocco and Algeria.
Some sources also claim that one of them may have been involved in small-scale street drug dealing, although this information has not been officially confirmed.
Videos and photos online
Shortly after the incident, videos and photos recorded by witnesses began circulating online.
Some images show the injured man sitting on the pavement while police officers provide assistance before paramedics arrive.
There are also alleged X-ray images circulating on social media showing the metal object inside the victim’s skull.
Investigation ongoing
The investigation is being carried out by the Judicial Police of the Guardia Civil, which is working to reconstruct exactly what happened.
