Spain declares three days of national mourning



Spain has declared three days of official national mourning following the deadly railway accident that occurred in the municipality of Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba.

The accident took place on the evening of January 18 on a high-speed rail line, when one train derailed and subsequently collided with another. Several carriages overturned and left the tracks. Rail traffic on the Madrid–Andalusia route was temporarily suspended while emergency services operated at the scene.

According to confirmed official figures, 39 people have died and more than 150 have been injured. During the period of national mourning, flags are flying at half-mast across the country and public events are being cancelled or postponed in solidarity with the victims and their families.
