Today, 29th May, the trade unions have called a teachers' strike in almost all public schools in the Valencian Community, as well as in the province of Alicante.
The general strike called by four unions (Intersindical Valenciana, CGT, CNT and COS) demands, in addition to the responsibility for the DANA, the repeal of the Valencian law of educational freedom; reduction of ratios in classrooms and of bureaucracy; stability and solutions to the abuse of temporality for interim teachers; retirement at 60 years for all teachers, and maintenance of the agreements on teaching staff.
In this way, they demand the recovery of purchasing power and the equalisation of the CPI; the equalisation of all bodies to the A1; the recovery of the full extra pay and the payment of the month of July to the competition tribunals.
Other demands in the field of education include the immediate reconstruction of the schools affected by the DANA and the recovery of the budget for all educational infrastructures.
In general terms, the strike demands "criminal responsibility for those guilty of the deaths of workers on the day of the dana in accidents at work, from the president of the Generalitat to the employers who did not guarantee the safety of the people who worked for them".
It also calls for "reparation and justice for all the victims" of this catastrophe and the recognition of absolute permanent incapacity with lifetime benefits for those workers who request it and who have lost a family member to the FANE.
