The Tudemir building on the Orihuela-Desamparados campus of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH) will host the first UMH Wine Fair this Friday, November 14, at 12:00 PM: Wines made by UMH graduates; an event in which a total of 25 wineries will participate. The Fair commemorates the 25th anniversary of the first graduating class of Oenology students from the UMH, which will be celebrated this academic year 2025/2026.
The Miguel Hernández University (UMH) was the first university in the Valencian Community to implement a Bachelor's Degree in Oenology, which it did at the Orihuela-Desamparados campus, alongside the existing programs at that time: Agricultural Engineering, Agronomic Engineering, and Food Science and Technology.
The first UMH Wine Fair will serve as a reunion on the Orihuela campus for classmates, professors, and staff who were part of the program when it was offered. Attendees will also be able to discover and taste wines made by UMH graduates and learn about the latest winemaking trends.
The UMH has transformed the Bachelor's Degree in Oenology into a Master's Degree in Viticulture and Oenology. Among UMH graduates, some stand out for producing what is currently considered the best wine in Rueda; and for being world champions in Blind Wine Tasting in 2015. Others produce wines in the Loire Valley and Sicily, or have won awards in Ribera del Duero. In addition to graduates working in wineries, others are employed in research centers, teaching, consulting, and, ultimately, in all activities related to the world of vines and wine.
