Torrevieja approved its 2026 budget: €187.7 million for city development and residents' comfort.

Torrevieja's Municipal Council finally approved the city's 2026 budget at its plenary session. The total financial plan will amount to €187.7 million, an increase of approximately 11-12% over the previous year. The City Hall emphasizes that this is one of the largest budgets in the city's history.

The financial document forms the basis for urban development for the entire next year, from major infrastructure projects to the everyday social services residents encounter daily.

Main Spending Areas and Priorities

A significant portion of the budget is allocated to urban infrastructure and reurbanization. Tens of millions of euros are planned for these purposes in 2026, including projects to renew streets, public spaces, and individual city districts. Among the areas mentioned in the documents and accompanying materials are programs to reurbanize residential areas, modernize the urban environment, and improve accessibility.

The social policy and subsidies section provides funding for programs to support families, the elderly, and vulnerable groups. A separate line item is allocated for subsidies for young people, including assistance with starting independent life and entering the housing market. In total, several tens of millions of euros are allocated for social programs and direct support for the population.

Education, culture, and sport also remain key priorities. The budget includes funds for the maintenance and renovation of municipal facilities, cultural events, and the development of sports infrastructure. Plans include continued investment in public buildings and cultural spaces that shape vibrant urban life.

A separate section of the budget is dedicated to the urban environment, tourism, and improvement. These items are aimed at maintaining Torrevieja's tourist appeal, maintaining public spaces, parks, and coastal areas, as well as projects that improve the city's appearance.

What the Mayor noted. Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolon called the approved document a "transformation budget" in his speech. According to him, the financial plan for 2026 combines investments in city development with social responsibility and the sustainable management of municipal resources. The mayor emphasized that the budget is aimed at specific and tangible changes: improving urban infrastructure, supporting residents, and creating conditions for sustainable economic development without drastic fiscal decisions.

What does this mean for residents in 2026? For city residents, the approved budget means:

– continued work on street and neighborhood renovations;

– expansion of social assistance and subsidy programs;

– support for youth and families;

– preservation of cultural and sports initiatives;

– development of the urban environment without the announced increase in basic municipal rates.

Looking forward to the new year. The adoption of the budget traditionally draws a financial line under the outgoing year and sets the benchmarks for the next. In this sense, the 2026 budget is perceived as a calm and confident start—with clearly defined priorities, supported by figures, and a clear focus on quality of life.
