Torrevieja awards new urban transport contract to Avanza Movilidad Levante

The City Council of Torrevieja has awarded the new urban transport service contract to Avanza Movilidad Levante S.L., which will operate the city’s bus network for the next 10 years.
According to Federico Alarcón, secretary of the Local Government Board, the company’s offer represents an 18% reduction compared with the original tender budget of €82.7 million.
The municipal subsidy for the entire contract period will amount to approximately €67.8 million.
More routes and buses
The new system will include 12 urban bus lines:
9 daytime routes
3 night routes
The fleet will consist of 32 buses:
26 hybrid buses
6 electric buses.
Over 3.3 million passengers per year
The study estimates that the new model could reach 3.37 million passengers annually, significantly increasing current ridership levels.
Smart transport technology
The project includes major technological improvements:
166 digital information screens at bus stops
customer service centres
expanded service with 20,000 additional kilometres of routes per year.

Public transport in Torrevieja dates back to 1884, when the railway line connecting Albatera and Torrevieja was opened to transport salt and passengers.
After the railway closed in 1970, buses became the main form of public transport in the city.
