Torrevieja begins 2026 with 110,500 inhabitants and adds more than 4,100 new registered residents in one year

Torrevieja (Alicante) — The coastal city of Torrevieja has started 2026 with a total of 110,500 registered residents, representing an increase of more than 4,100 new inhabitants compared to the previous year, according to data released by the Torrevieja City Council.

This increase confirms a sustained population growth trend in this municipality in the south of the province of Alicante, located in the Vega Baja del Segura region, and regarded as one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain in recent years.

Demographic growth and regional context

Torrevieja had already surpassed the 100,000-resident threshold in recent years, consolidating its position as one of the country’s fastest-growing cities. According to data from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), in 2025 the city’s registered population grew by approximately 4.9% compared to 2024, significantly exceeding the national average for coastal municipalities and standing out for its ability to attract both Spanish and foreign residents.

The steady increase in the municipal register has been accompanied by urban expansion, investments in infrastructure, and a noticeable improvement in public services. These factors have made Torrevieja an attractive destination for permanent residents, including people relocating year-round from other parts of Spain and from abroad.

Drivers of population growth

Several key factors are contributing to Torrevieja’s demographic growth:

  • Attraction of both international and domestic residents, drawn by quality of life, Mediterranean climate and a broad range of services.

  • Residential and urban development, particularly in expanding areas such as La Hoya.

  • Growth in employment and economic opportunities, especially in tourism, services and retail.

  • Consolidation as a residential destination for retirees and families, resulting in an increasingly diverse, multicultural population.

Position within the Valencian Community

Torrevieja continues to rank among the fastest-growing municipalities in the Valencian Community. At provincial level, it follows the three provincial capitals — Valencia, Alicante and Castellón — as well as Elche, consolidating its position as the fifth most populous city in the region.
