Torrevieja: fine revenues exceed budget by 69% amid increased enforcement

The municipality of Torrevieja collected significantly more revenue from fines in 2025 than initially budgeted. According to official data, income exceeded projections by approximately 69%.

The increase is mainly due to traffic violations detected by four fixed speed cameras, as well as a rise in parking fines linked to a stronger police presence.

A dual enforcement model has emerged: automated speed control through radars and on-ground monitoring of parking violations.

This trend is also visible across the Comunidad Valenciana, where many municipalities have seen increases of 20–50% in fine revenues. However, Torrevieja stands out with one of the highest growth rates.

The rise is not only due to enforcement but also to increased population, tourism, and pressure on parking infrastructure.

At the same time, local authorities are taking action. A large underground parking facility near the port, with approximately 600–700 spaces, has recently been opened, featuring modern navigation, control and security systems.

Further parking projects are planned to better distribute traffic across the city.

Still, the challenge remains to balance:
