While some cities are quietly slipping into winter hibernation, Torrevieja is declaring a full-blown mobilization of festive spirit! The city council hasn't skimped on the small stuff, preparing over 40 events for anyone who wants to celebrate Christmas and New Year's in Mediterranean style.
Get ready, you won't be bored! Starting Thursday, December 11th , a powerful campaign to support local businesses will kick off: stores will be decked out in poinsettias, and 30,000 stylish eco-friendly bags will be urging you to "Buy it here!" Don't forget about the 22nd Window Display Competition —a stroll through the city will turn into an exhibition of Christmas magic.
Councilor Rosario Martínez Chazarra assures: "Torrevieja is ready for an unforgettable Christmas." And looking at the list, it's hard to argue with her.
The program's main hits (write them down in your calendar!)
The schedule is so tight that Santa Claus will have to work two shifts. Here's what awaits us:
Music for the soul: On December 12th, Sette Voci and the Symphony Orchestra will perform "Symphonic Pop Feeling"—pop hits in classical arrangements. And on December 21st , the International Auditorium will be filled with the Symphonic Gospel (UMT) —a burst of energy that will last until spring.
Magic and Passion: December 20th is a day of contrasts. First, let's be amazed by illusionist Jorge Luengo's "Ensueños" show at the theater (watch his hands!), and in the evening, warm up with Zambomba Flamenca —because what's a Spanish Christmas without guitar and dancing?
Technology vs. Tradition: On December 21st, the skies above the Juan Aparicio embankment will be illuminated by the futuristic Dronlight Show . Forget grandpa's fireworks, the future is already here! But for the traditionalists, we can reassure you: Santa Claus's Grotto will remain open as scheduled (December 23rd-24th).
Chic and Classic: After the Christmas feast, it's time for the Bublé Christmas Tribute (December 27) at Constitution Square—jazz, style, and romance. And on December 28, get "cultured" with the timeless ballet "Swan Lake."
Sports and Ice: A free ice rink is open in Plaza La Mata from December 26th . Yes, ice in Torrevieja! And if skating isn't your thing, run (literally) at the New Year's Eve Runs on December 30th . A great opportunity to burn off that hard-earned visceral fat at the Children's and Night New Year's Eve Runs .
The marathon will conclude on January 5th with the Grand Parade of the Three Kings . Their Majesties will arrive at 4:30 PM to collect letters, distribute candy, and officially close the season of Olivier salad and gifts.
Torrevieja is striving to extend its tourist season and make everyone who has ever celebrated Christmas here want to return. And judging by the scale of the project, they'll succeed!
