Torrevieja modernises its urban transport

Torrevieja City Council has approved the tender for the new urban transport service contract at its Governing Board meeting. The contract will last 10 years and cost a total of €115,440,005 (plus VAT). According to Mayor Eduardo Dolón, the goal is to award the contract in 2025 and have the service operational by the end of that year.


🚍 More modern, sustainable and accessible transportation

The new contract includes:

  • 32 new buses, of which 26 will be hybrid and 6 will be electric.

  • More than double the workforce: from 41 to more than 100 employees.

  • 9 daytime and 3 nighttime routes, with expanded routes and increased frequency.

  • Complete digitalization of the service, with an app and real-time information panels.

  • Construction of a new operational base with garages, workshops, and offices.


🎫 Free vouchers and discounts for groups

Free travel all year round for:

  • People over 65.

  • Pensioners.

  • People with a disability greater than 33%.

(Registered in Torrevieja for more than 1 year)


Trips with almost 50% discounts for:

  • Young people under 26.

  • Large families.

  • Long-term unemployed (over 2 years).


Other fares:

  • 30-day pass: €44.

  • Tourist Card: €10 (3 days), €18 (7 days).

  • Multi-trip: €11 (10 trips), €22 (20 trips).

  • Regular ticket: €1.50.


🌍 Firm commitment to sustainability

The new model seeks greener mobility, with lower fossil fuel consumption, reduced emissions, and less noise. The vehicles will feature driver assistance and monitoring and control systems.


In addition, more than €4.1 million will be invested in a new operating base and charging system for electric buses, which will revert to the City Council at the end of the concession.


With this commitment to more efficient, environmentally friendly urban transport, adapted to current needs, Torrevieja is taking a step forward toward modern and accessible urban mobility for all its citizens.
