Torrevieja strengthens security at municipal facilities: contract worth almost half a million euros

The local council, Junta de Gobierno Local, has officially approved a contract for "video and physical surveillance" of municipal buildings and grounds. The contract was awarded to VIGIPROT S.L.U.

The contract is €118,433 per year (including VAT) for a two-year term with possible extensions. With the maximum extension, the cost over four years would be €473,732.

Included:

• An additional 200 hours of security guard and 200 hours of support staff for night, holiday, and unscheduled shifts.

• Three employees will be trained in first aid, defibrillator use (DESA), and elevator rescue—and any replacements will receive the same training.

• Two license plate recognition (LPR) cameras will be installed to automatically open barriers at entry points—the equipment will be transferred to the city upon completion of the contract.

• The control system is equipped with live monitoring: police will have access to security guard location data, digital reports, and performance indicators. In emergency situations at night or on weekends, VIGIPROT is required to provide enhanced security personnel within 8 hours.

City officials emphasize that this measure is part of a strategy to improve security and protect municipal property. In a period when police personnel were previously expanded, this decision is seen as a complement to security efforts, not a replacement.
