A quiet stretch of coastline near Barranco Rubio in Orihuela Costa became the scene of a tragedy when a 28-year-old man died after falling from a cliff approximately ten meters high.
The incident occurred along the rocky coastline between Campoamor and Mil Palmeras beaches, an area known for scenic coastal paths and dramatic Mediterranean views.
According to emergency services, the man fell from the cliff onto rocks near the shoreline. Patrols from the Guardia Civil, rescue teams and SAMU paramedics were dispatched to the scene, but the injuries proved fatal.
People who were nearby suggested that the victim may have been trying to retrieve a pair of glasses that had fallen down the slope. While leaning forward to reach them, he reportedly lost his balance and fell. This account has been widely discussed among witnesses, although it has not been officially confirmed.
The cliffs along Orihuela Costa offer spectacular views but can also be dangerous. Narrow paths, steep drops and unstable ground can easily lead to accidents if visitors approach the edge.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past. Several years ago two tourists died after falling from a height of around 12 meters along the Orihuela Costa coastline.
Barranco Rubio is considered one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in southern Alicante province, but authorities regularly warn residents and visitors to exercise caution near the cliffs.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
