Tragedy on the CV-905 in Torrevieja: a palm tree fell on the car, the driver died.

Torrevieja, November 14, 2025. — A young Spaniard, 22 years old, died when a large palm tree fell on his car on regional road CV-905, near the Carrefour hypermarket. This is reported by several sources.

The accident was reported at approximately 17:07. According to the Alicante firemen's consortium, a tree located in the middle dividing lane of the road fell on the left side of the car and "according to one version, the impact was so strong that death occurred almost immediately."

The following arrived at the scene of the accident: firefighters from the Torrevieja station, units of the Guardia Civil, local police and the SAMU (emergency) brigade.

According to preliminary estimates, the palm was infected with the red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus), a pest that weakens the wood of the tree from the inside ( Euro Weekly News ). The possibility that the wind contributed to the fall is also considered.

The CV-905 road is an important highway connecting Torrevieja and other settlements, and more than 30,000 cars pass through it a day.
