Officers from the Guardia Civil Main Post in Torrevieja arrested two Lithuanian nationals, aged 32 and 36, after intercepting a vehicle valued at more than €80,000 that had been reported stolen in the United Kingdom.

Suspicious British number plates

The incident occurred during a routine security checkpoint.

The vehicle carried British license plates, but it lacked the mandatory country identification mark, which raised suspicions among the officers and prompted a more thorough inspection.

VIN number manipulation

During the technical inspection, officers discovered signs of manipulation in the vehicle identification number (VIN).

A database check confirmed that the car had been reported stolen in the United Kingdom last year.

False documents and European arrest warrant

Further investigation revealed that the passenger was carrying forged documents.

Authorities also confirmed that he was subject to a European Arrest Warrant in relation to crimes linked to organised criminal activity.

Attempted escape

While being transferred to police facilities, one of the suspects attempted to flee.

According to investigators, he jumped over the entrance barrier of the police compound, damaging it before being quickly apprehended by officers.

Judicial proceedings

Both suspects were brought before the judicial authorities.

They face charges of:

  • document forgery

  • handling stolen goods

  • property damage.

After appearing before the court, they were released under precautionary measures while awaiting trial.
