Torrevieja launches urban transport reform: €115 million tender approved

Torrevieja, December 1, 2025. Torrevieja City Council has officially approved the tender for a new 10-year urban transport service contract worth €115,440,005 (excluding VAT). The document has already been published, and companies have 40 days to submit their bids, with the deadline set for January 12, 2026.
Double the number of buses and triple the number of staff
The project entails a major modernization of public transport. The bus fleet will increase from 16 to 32 vehicles, including 26 hybrid and 6 electric, which should reduce emissions and noise levels on city routes. All vehicles will be equipped with driver assistance systems and real-time information services.
The workforce will increase from the current 41 to over 100 specialists, expanding service capabilities and optimizing network operations. 12 routes and an extended schedule
The contract covers the launch of 9 daytime and 3 nighttime routes, including:
• the Circle Line
• the Hospital Line
• the Torreblanca–La Mata–Hospital Quirons route
• nighttime lines N1, N2, and N3.

New Fares and Digitalization
Basic fare: €1.50
Several types of travel cards will be introduced, including:
• "Gold" – free for people 65+, pensioners, and citizens with a disability rating of 33% or higher;
• discounted reusable cards with up to a 50% discount for young people, large families, and the long-term unemployed;
• 30-day travel card for €44;
• tourist cards (3 days – €10, 7 days – €18);
• 10 trips – €11, 20 trips – €22.
The service will be fully digitalized: a mobile app, waiting boards at stops, and an OSS monitoring system will be introduced. Three customer offices will open: in the city center, in La Mata, and at the operator's headquarters. New transport base
A complex with a depot, workshops, and a charging station for 12 electric buses will be built on a 7,550 m² site in Enclave 13. Project budget:
• €3,157,684.63 + VAT — base,
• €963,243.91 + VAT — charging infrastructure.
