The retail chain Lidl officially opened a new supermarket on 20 February 2026 in Torrevieja, marking its third store in the municipality.
The new location, situated on Avenida Desiderio Rodríguez s/n, represents an investment of nearly €5 million and has created 17 new jobs. The store features more than 1,150 m² of retail space, approximately 70 parking spaces, and electric vehicle charging points.
Lidl in Spain: scale and numbers
Lidl currently operates more than 700 stores across Spain, generating annual revenues of approximately €6.95 billion.
Dividing this turnover by the number of stores results in an estimated average of around €9.9 million per store per year. This is a rough calculation — actual performance varies by location — but it illustrates the economic scale of each supermarket.
The company also emphasizes its contribution to the Spanish economy through partnerships with national suppliers and continuous expansion.
Presence in Vega Baja
Within the Vega Baja region, Lidl operates stores in:
Torrevieja (now three locations)
Orihuela
Almoradí
Pilar de la Horadada
The new opening strengthens Lidl’s position in southern Alicante, an area with both permanent residents and significant seasonal tourism.
A curious fact
During special promotional weeks — such as the well-known “German Week” — certain themed products generate sales peaks comparable to seasonal campaigns, becoming a distinctive feature of Lidl’s strategy in Spain.
