Torrevieja is preparing to host one of the most iconic musicals in history: The Phantom of the Opera .
After its huge success in Madrid and having captivated more than 160 million spectators, in 21 languages, around 195 cities around the world, this show begins its long-awaited tour of Spain and will make a stop at the Torrevieja Municipal Theatre on June 6, 7 and 8 .
This is a milestone in the history of the iconic musical, as it marks the first time the Phantom has toured in Spanish and the first time it will tour throughout Spain after two seasons of resounding critical and popular success—an unprecedented tour for a production of this magnitude. The perfect introduction to a show that has already captivated more than 300,000 spectators, making it one of the world's leading entertainment destinations.
A story of passion, mystery and obsession
The Phantom of the Opera tells the story of a tormented and mysterious masked figure who inhabits the Paris Opera House and imposes his will, terrifying the theater owners and their actors. But then, this figure falls madly in love with a young soprano, Christine Daaé, and dedicates himself to cultivating her extraordinary talents, employing every devious method at his disposal. The story takes dark and tragic turns, combining elements of romance, jealousy, and redemption in an unforgettable visual and aural spectacle.
The stage production stands out for its impressive staging, a first-class cast, and an immersive atmosphere that immerses the audience in the mystery and passion of the story. With a running time of approximately 150 minutes, including an intermission , this production is designed for all audiences.
Andrew Lloyd Webber 's play is considered one of the most beautiful and spectacular musicals in history. Directed by Federico Bellone and musically directed by Julio Awad (also winner of the 2024 Talía Award for this version), it picks up the baton from a production that has captivated the world since its 1986 premiere in London's West End. Silvia Montesinos is the resident director and responsible for the adaptation of the lyrics. The costumes, by Chiara Donato, received the Broadway World Spain Audience Award at its latest edition.
Since opening at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End on October 9, 1986, and on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre on January 26, 1988, The Phantom of the Opera has won over 70 major theatrical awards. On January 9, 2006, The Phantom of the Opera became the longest-running show in Broadway history, surpassing Cats with a run of 7,486 performances.
